Minka Kelly says goodbye to 'Ransom Canyon' after Netflix

Minka Kelly is bidding an emotional farewell to Ransom Canyon after Netflix canceled the Texas romance drama following two seasons. 

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the cancellation Thursday night, and Kelly responded the following morning on Instagram, sharing a montage video from the series with a heartfelt caption: "Appreciating this little trip down memory lane as we say farewell. All good things must come to an end. And so it is." 

She continued, "Thank you all for giving us two beautiful seasons! I love you forever my Ransom Canyon family!!"

Created by April Blair and based on Jodi Thomas's bestselling novel series, Ransom Canyon followed three ranching families navigating land disputes, legacies and romance in a fictional Texas town, often described as blending elements of Virgin River and Yellowstone. 

The series premiered its first season in April 2025, with Season 2 debuting July 23 of this year. 

Kelly starred alongside Josh Duhamel as central romantic leads Quinn O'Grady and Staten Kirkland, with a supporting cast that included Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Marianly Tejada, Jack Schumacher, Casey W. Johnson, Philip Winchester and Justin Johnson Cortez. 

Duhamel had not publicly commented on the cancellation as of publication, and his representatives did not respond to The Hollywood Reporter's request for comment.

The cancellation came as a particular surprise given how the Season 2 finale had set up Quinn and Staten's relationship, with the two finally together after years of will-they-won't-they tension, including Quinn's decision to reject a marriage proposal from her New York boyfriend, Oliver, played by Ben Robson, in favour of returning home to Staten.

Showrunner April Blair had previously told Entertainment Weekly that the couple's reunion was meant to launch a new chapter of the story rather than conclude it, with plans to explore the everyday realities of the two building a life together in a potential third season. 

Fans reacted to the cancellation with heavy disappointment across social media, with many expressing hope that another outlet might pick up the series. 

The show was also notable behind the scenes for making history as the first Netflix production to power its New Mexico base camp almost entirely with solar energy for extended stretches during filming.
