Former 'American Idol' contestant Caleb Flynn faces trial in wife's Tipp City murder

Caleb Flynn, a former pastor and American Idol contestant, is expected to stand trial on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Flynn is accused of killing his wife, Ashley Flynn inside their Tipp City home on February 16, 2026.

Flynn shot his wife Ashley, 37, in the head but staged her murder to look like a break-in, the prosecutors allege.

Flynn has pleaded not guilty and claimed someone broke into their home and shot her wife.

Ashley Flynn was a middle school volleyball coach and substitute teacher in Tipp City, Ohio.

Two days before the couple had celebrated Valentine’s Day, and Ashley shared the images on Facebook on February 14, 2026.

Flynn in a 911 call at midnight around 2:30 a.m. on February 16, told the dispatcher that an intruder had broken in and shot his wife, Ashley, in the head.

When enquired if the intruder was still inside, Flynn responded, “I don’t know. I don’t know.”

Instead, he narrated the scene to the dispatcher, saying, “My wife is. She’s got two shots to her head. There’s blood everywhere. Oh, my God. Oh my God.”

He further said that at the time of the incident their two daughters were asleep in another room and that he was with them when his wife was shot.

Flynn’s contradictory statements led the investigators to suspect Flynn’s role in the murder.

Flynn told police officials he kept several firearms, including a handgun, in his truck.

Whereas bodycam footage later revealed an officer pointing out that the truck’s centre console was open, where Flynn claimed he stored his gun.

Flynn was taken into custody three days after the incident.

He now faces charges of aggravated murder and other related offences.

The jury selection is set to commence on Thursday, September 17, at the Miami County Courthouse in Troy.

The trial has drawn national spotlight and is expected to last for two weeks, with over 100 people listed as potential witnesses.
