Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg released two new hardware products at the company’s annual Meta Connect conference on Wednesday, September 23, indicating a significant shift towards AI and away from the metaverse.
The highlight of the event was the “Muse Charm,” which is a pocket-sized device designed exclusively for voice interaction with Meta’s new Muse AI agent.
The device has an approximately 2-inch display screen, an embedded 5G modem, and a customizable Muse character at the center. The device enables users to touch and contact Muse without using smartphone applications. "This little device is packed with a lot of technology," Zuckerberg said. "If you're not wearing glasses, this is going to be the fastest way to talk to your muse."
Meta also launched Meta VR Glasses, which are slimmer and lighter compared to Meta's Quest headsets. These Meta VR glasses are priced at $1,299. The glasses come with 5K micro-OLED displays, eye and hand tracking, and an external processing puck. The glasses will be available from spring 2027 onwards. Besides, the company also launched third-gen Ray-Ban Meta glasses starting at $249.
The news is an indication of Zuckerberg’s shift from his metaverse focus to something called "personal superintelligence." Muse has been downloaded by millions since its launch, and analysts have likened the effect of Muse to the launch of ChatGPT back in 2022.
