What's main difference between ‘The Love Hypothesis' book and film?

Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling romance novel “The Love Hypothesis” has been released on Prime Video, with Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman starring as Olive Smith and Dr Adam Carlsen.

The film is directed by Claire Scanlon and premiered to a mix of fan excitement and critical scepticism.

The film retains the core fake-dating premise but makes notable changes from the book. Supporting character storylines are adjusted, Olive and Jeremy’s history is altered, and most significantly, the reveal of Adam’s longstanding three-year crush is replaced. In the film, Adam doesn’t realise his feelings until the fake dating begins.

The ending also differs from the book. The changes have been discussed by the film leads during press interviews. Reinhart, who initially hesitated to join the project due to fatigue with modern rom-coms, said reading Hazelwood’s book changed her mind. She said: “I saw the potential that this could be something that felt a little bit more timeless.”

Both stars expressed openness to reprising their roles, though they acknowledged the challenge of cross-studio crossovers with Hazelwood’s interconnected book universe.

The “Love Hypothesis” is now streaming on Prime Video.
