Secy defence switches on latest air traffic control system
KARACHI: Secretary Defence, Lt. General (Retd) Asif Yaseen Malik, on Monday inaugurated the latest Air Traffic Control System (Aircon 2100 ATM System) here at CAA Air Control Centre.

Director General, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Nadeem Ahmed Yousufzai, briefed the Secretary Defence about the Aircon 2100 system.

Briefing the media persons about the newly installed system, Director Operations of CAA Saleem Ather said, "We are working towards modernizing the future aviation system and under this plan getting
advanced technology for air traffic management".

He said that the CAA's air traffic control system would work more
effectively with the installation of Aircon 2001 ATM system.

This latest system will cater to the needs for next 20 years, he added.

He said initially this system has been installed at Karachi and Lahore airports while remaining airports will be linked with this system soon.

To a question about the shortage of technical staff at CAA Air traffic control centres, he said that the CAA is appointing more Air Traffic Controllers to overcome the shortage.

He said that CAA would replace its all radars at airports by the
year 2015.

Earlier, the Secretary Defence visited CAA headquarters where he was briefed about the working of the organization. (APP)
