KARACHI: Nocturnal showers amidst an interplay of heart-stopping thunderclaps, and occasional streaks of lightning bolts across the heavily overcast night-sky whipped parts of Karachi on Tuesday, Geo News reported.
The downpours abetted by gusty winds were reported from Malir, Airport area, Model Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B Area, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Paposh Nagar, Lasbela, Guru Mandir, and adjoining areas.
On the other hand rains also lashed Hyderabad, Thatta, Gharo, and adjoining areas as well as Hub.
According to Meteorology Department only North Karachi received as much as 12.6 millimeters of rain, which left swathes of roads submerged under rainwater bringing the traffic to a halt.
Hailstorms followed rain in some parts of city sending a wave of chill down the spine of the city, however, people enjoyed the music as the ice pellets pelted the doors and windows of their houses and vehicles.
Meteorology Department has forecast this rain spell is likely to continue for the next 12 hours.
The unexpected cloudburst dampened roads causing many a biker to slip and leaving hundreds stranded away for their homes waiting for the rain to stop.
Geo News also received reports of intermittent power failures from the rain-lashed areas as around 50 feeders tripped off line across the city.
