Bangladesh lodges protest with Pakistan HC
DHAKA: Bangladesh Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned Pakistani High Commissioner and recorded its protest over government's statement on death sentences of those who opposed break-up of Pakistan in 1971.

Qazi Khalilullah, a spokesman of Pakistani Foreign Office, has confirmed to Geo News that country's High Commissioner in Bangladesh, Shuja Alam, was summoned by the authorities in Dhaka to record protest.

It may be noted here that Jamat-e-Islami leader, Ali Ahsan Mujahid and the leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Salahuddin Quadir were hanged by Bangladesh a couple of months ago.

The International Human Rights Organizations had strongly criticised Bangladesh for the hangings.

The government of Pakistan, on the other hand, termed the death sentences as contradictory to 1974 agreement signed by Pakistan, Bangladesh and India.
