Javed Miandad lashed out at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday, hailing the board’s decision to appoint Azhar Ali as ODI captain a mistake.

In an interview to international media, former Pakistan Test captain Javed Miandad said PCB made a mistake by appointing Azhar Ali as the team’s ODI captain and that it was high time the board admitted its mistake.

Criticizing the skipper’s performance, Javed Miandad said Azhar Ali did not even merit a place in the ODI side, let alone be made to lead the team.

According to reports, PCB has been considering removing Azhar Ali from captaincy after the national team’s cringeworthy performance in the ongoing ODI series against England.

England beat Pakistan by 44 runs in the first ODI while Pakistan lost to England by four wickets in the second ODI. In the third ODI Pakistan suffered an embarrassing 169-run defeat, losing the five match series 0 - 3.

The defeat drew criticism from various former greats, including Wasim Akram who termed the team's performance as 'embarrassing'.

"They outplayed us in every department of the game. Our performance wasn't just below average, it was poor. Our fielding was pathetic," Wasim told Geo News after the third ODI.
