Pakistan’s former skipper Wasim Akram said on Monday he was fine with the decision of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to retain Azhar Ali as the ODI captain.

Wasim Akram said those who have not played cricket at the international level do not know that a captain requires time to improve.

“Any captain needs 1-1.5 years to improve. Performance can only be judged after playing 30-35 matches,” Akram told Geo News.

He added that there was no such thing as a natural captain and improvement could only come with experience.

The PCB on Monday announced that Azhar Ali had been retained as captain for the ODI series against West Indies to be played in UAE.

There was speculation that Azhar Ali might resign or be asked to step down following Pakistan’s humiliating ODI series defeat against England. Sources had later revealed that Azhar Ali had informed the PCB about his decision to not resign from the post.
