India SC restricts BCCI’s financial powers

The Supreme Court of India on Friday passed an order limiting the BCCI's financial freedom and power until the board complies with the Lodha Committee's recommendations, Indian media reported.

The court directed the Lodha Committee to limit the value of contracts the BCCI can enter into. All contracts exceeding the limit should now go through the committee. The next major contract for the board is broadcast rights for the IPL, which will be finalised on October 25.

BCCI president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke have been asked to meet the committee before November 3.

The BCCI had earlier rejected some of the Supreme Court´s key recommendations aimed at administrative reform. The tussle between the board and the Supreme Court had even threatened the ongoing India-New Zealand series, as fears emerged that the series would have to be suspended in case of a deadlock.
