Building fire eventually brought under control near Karachi's city courts

KARACHI: Fire broke out on Friday in a three-storey building near city court's in Karachi. Ten fire brigade vehicles, after a lot of struggle, eventually doused the fire.

According to fire brigade officials, fire had broken out in medicine storage area of the building. 

According to chief fire officer, firefighters had earlier controlled 90 percent of the fire but bowsers eventually ran out of water and the fire gained back intensity. A firefighter also got injured in the process. 

Fire had also reached to a three-storey school nearby. Locals had also resorted to self help attempts to extinguish the fire. 

Due to heavy traffic, fire tenders initially faced difficulty in reaching the site of fire. 

Fire brigade officials said that the intensity of fire was high. 

Earlier, clouds of smoke were seen issuing from the area. The site is near to a commercial area, having clothing and furniture shops as well. 

Storage areas within city dangerous: Mayor Karachi

City Mayor Waseem Akhtar reached the site and also talked to media after the fire was brought under control.

Akhtar said that the storage areas made within the city are dangerous. He said it will be investigated how a chemical storage was formed in a densely populated area.

He said that no causes of fire have been identified. He said he has ordered deputy commissioner to remove chemical storages in the city with immediate effect.

The city mayor said that fire tenders reached late because of traffic.
