ATC issues arrest warrants against three suspects in Imran Farooq murder case

ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court on Friday issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)-London leader Mohammad Anwar, suspects Kashif Khan and Iftikhar Hussain in Imran Farooq murder case.

Police had arrested three suspects —Khalid Shamim, Mohsin Ali Syed and Moazzam Ali— in the case. The accusations against the MQM-London leader were made in confessional statements of Khalid and Mohsin.

The suspects are kept in Adiala jail. The accused would be indicted in the case on December 8 in an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad.

Last month, Shamim in his confessional statement claimed the party founder gave him directions to assassinate Farooq in a telephonic speech to workers in Karachi.

Shamim said that he, along with other suspects of the case Moazzam Ali and Kashif Khan, planned the murder of Farooq.

He claimed that all the planning took place in MQM’s headquarter Nine-Zero. However, funding was an issue.

Shamim said that Altaf Hussain sent 25, 000 pounds through his nephew Iftikhar Hussain.

The suspect said that they were introduced to Mohsin Ali, another suspect in the case, who agreed to go to London and provide aid for the murder.
