ISLAMABAD: Humayyun Jamshed, the grieving brother of singer-turned-preacher Junaid Jamshed who died in the tragic plane crash on Wednesday, said the icon was a “loving, compassionate” man who cared deeply for those around him.
“I am in shock over his death,” Humayyun Jamshed said while speaking to Geo News outside Islamabad airport Thursday morning, after he arrived in the capital to collect the remains of his brother and sister-in-law.
“But my heart is content that my brother died on his way from Tableegh,” Humayyun said, adding that Junaid was blessed to have died during preaching Islam.
Humayyun said his brother had been doing Tableegh when their mother and father had died.
“Junaid was away on Tableegh to Canada when our mother died. And he was also on Tableegh in UK when our father departed,” the brother recalled.
Junaid Jamshed along with his wife was killed in the Islamabad-bound PIA flight that crashed near Havelian on Wednesday. A famous preacher, Junaid Jamshed traveled extensively to spread Islamic teachings. He was in Chitral for preaching-related work and was on board the ill-fated PK-661 flight.
Remains of the 47 victims of the plane crash are being flown from the Ayub Medical Complex to Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Three Pakistan Army helicopters will transport the bodies to Islamabad, Civil Aviation Authority spokesman Sher Ali Khan said.
DNA tests will be conducted at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad and CMH Rawalpindi. Authorities said help desks have been established at the hospitals for families of the victims.
