Pakistan attaches great importance to ECO: Aizaz Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: The Secretary General of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Khalil Ibrahim addressed the opening address of senior officials meeting (SOM) Sunday.

Foreign secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry was appointed as chairman of the SOM.

“The summit will give way to new ways of regional cooperation in trade, energy, and communication,” said Chaudhry while addressing the senior ECO officials. "Pakistan wishes to have close coordination and cooperation with ECO member states to improve the cooperation and trade linkage," he added.

“Pakistan welcomes the ECO conference in Kabul next year,” said Chaudhry adding that Pakistan is keen to see a stable and prosperous Afghanistan, which is crucial to the region's peace.  

The foreign secretary said the summit is aimed at bringing stability in the region. “Pak-China Economic Corridor will prove to be a game-changer for the region,” he said.

Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Friday announced that the 13th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) will be held in Islamabad on March 1.

The summit is aimed at reviewing the ECO’s state of affairs, in the light of changing global and regional circumstances. Member states are expected to decide on ways to expand regional economic cooperation.
