First encounter of 2017 in Karachi reported to be fake

KARACHI: The first encounter of the year that took place in Soldier Bazaar area on January 1 is reportedly fake.

One person was killed while another was injured in the encounter that happened when the accused persons were found carrying out a robbery.

While talking to Geo News Ferozabad DSP Farhat Kamal said the deceased person Kashif Hussain's family members took the case to the court, saying he was innocent.

The case was handed over to the DSP by SSP East Faisal Abdullah over court orders.

A report of the case has been prepared. It states cases should be filed against the five policemen, who carried out the encounter. They should be included in the investigation, the report further read.

According to the police, three FIRs were registered against Hussain and the injured Ansar, who is a security guard by profession.

Hussain and Ansar, residents of Lyari, were friends who, according to family members, were passing by Soldier Bazaar.

A similar case was reported last year in Karachi when a student was shot dead by the police in what was called an encounter.

According to the deceased person, Zakaria Janjua's, grandmother, he was studying in Malaysia and had come to Karachi on holidays. However, police had said snatched mobile phones and weapons were found in his possession.
