KARACHI: Superb performance in Pakistan Super League 2017 has earned Islamabad United all-rounder Shadab Khan a contract in Caribbean Premier League on Friday.
Shadab was picked by Shahrukh Khan’s Trinbago Knight Riders from the player’s draft for the 2017 edition of CPL for $ 30,000.
The 18-year-old got everyone’s attention during recently concluded PSL, where he took nine wickets and scored 66 runs in seven innings, which also earned him selectors’ call for Pakistan team’s training camp ahead of the tour to West Indies.
“He is very hard to pick, particularly when the batsmen are going hard. It is just a matter of nurturing now. Hopefully, the PCB's coaching staff nurture these boys well.” Islamabad United coach Dean Jones had said on Shadab Khan during the PSL.
Six other Pakistani cricketers – Sohail Tanvir, Shoaib Malik, Imad Wasim, Muhammad Sami, Wahab Riaz and Kamran Akmal - were also picked/retained by different franchises.
Sohail Tanvir was retained by Guyana Amazon Warriors for $160,000, making him one of the six most expensive players in the league.
Shoaib Malik ($110,000) and Imad Wasim ($90,000) were also retained by their teams Barbados Tridents and Jamaica Tallawahs.
Jamaica Tallawahs have also picked the fast bowler Muhammad Sami for $ 70,000. Sami was among the top performers of PSL as well, with 12 wickets in nine games.
Fast bowler Wahab Riaz was picked by Barbados Tridents for $30,000 while Kamran Akmal – the best player of Pakistan Super League – was picked by St. Lucia Stars for $15,000.
The fifth edition of Caribbean Premier League will be played from August 1 to September 9.
