World Poetry Day: Mushaira held in Quetta to promote young talent

QUETTA: Balochistan has a rich stock of literature comprising poems, prose, proverbs.
The province already has rich literature and after seeing the talent of its literati it seems literary arts will also have a bright future here.
Literati across the province gathered to enjoy an evening of mushaira at Balochi Academy on Tuesday.
The ceremony, which was held to mark World Poetry Day, gave a platform for many young poets to showcase their talent.
“New poets who are writing in Persian, Balochi, Urdu, Hazargi have been performing quite well,” said renowned poet Sarwar Javed while speaking to Geo News at the event.
“Balochistan has a rich history of poetry and literature and its future also seems to be quiet bright,” the poet added.
“Our poets have earned recognition on a national level and our youth is moving forward,” remarked Balochi Academy official Pana Baloch.
Alongside, many organisations have emerged which seek to promote literature and poetry in the city. Other academies of different languages are also playing their part in encouraging the youth to make their mark in this field.
Since a diverse group of people are settled in the province, the poetry here is written in Balochi, Brahui, Sindhi, Pashto, Farsi, Saraikhi, Punjabi and Hazargi among others.
The efforts of some famous Baloch poets can also not go unnoticed. Poets from Balochistan have earned national and international success including Ghulam Hussain Saba Dashtyari, Manzoor Bismil, Atta Shad, Gul Khan Naseer, Yousuf Magsi, Ain Salam, Riaz Qamar, Saeed Gohar, Imdad Nizami. The upcoming poets include Behram Ghauri, Rashid Anjum, Abid Shah Abid, Naseem Ahmed Naseem, Sharafat Abbas, Mohsin Shakeel, Sarwar Javed, Dr Firdous Anwar Qazi, Arif Zia, Daniyal Tahreer Irfan Baig, Sadaf Changezi, Afzal Murad.
On the other hand, female poets have also played an integral role in making their mark including Rabia Khuzdari, Sanam Tasneem, Jahan Ara Tabassum.
