LAHORE: Head of Pakistani Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr Tahirul Qadri was admitted to a hospital in Toronto after he was diagnosed with a chest infection two days earlier.

The prominent cleric was being treated at home before his condition worsened and he was admitted to a private hospital.

Qadri's medical tests were conducted as he remained under observation at the healthcare facility.

The party has appealed to the public to pray for his quick recovery.

The cleric, who led the anti-government protests in early 2013, is the founder of the non-governmental organisation Minhaj-ul-Quran International in 1981 in Lahore.

Qadri resides in Canada since 2005, where he acquired citizenship.
