Champions Trophy: Umar Akmal fails fitness test

BIRMINGHAM: Umar Akmal has been declared unfit by team management, informed sources on Sunday.

The decision on whether Umar will be in the squad or not now rests with the coach Mickey Arthur, furthermore, sources have also informed that trainer Grant Ludon has also shown his reservations over Umar's fitness.

The camp for Champions Trophy started on May 17 but surprisingly the middle order batsman has not yet been given a chance for net practice yet. This clearly shows coach`s reservations over his selection in the team.

Previously, Umar was not included in the team for West Indies tour because of his fitness.

Now the question arises that if Akmal was unfit then why he was selected in the team?

In a video message issued by PCB, Aurthur said that that fielding and fitness are of utmost importance to him.

“Fitness, fielding is of paramount importance. Good fielding gives us a chance for better batting and bowling."
