Google pays tribute to Sadequain on his 87th birthday

Google said the doodle celebrates Sadequain’s legacy "as one of Pakistan’s most popular and prolific artists."

Google has paid tribute to renowned Pakistani artist Syed Sadequain on his 87th birthday with a doodle. Born on 30th June 1930, Sadequain is widely regarded as the best painter and calligrapher of Pakistan.

Google said the doodle celebrates Sadequain’s legacy "as one of Pakistan’s most popular and prolific artists."

Sadequain received national awards like the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Presidential Media of Honour and internationally was awarded the Paris Biennale Prize in 1961.

He brought calligraphy to prominence and also painted murals, illustrations and even wrote poetry. Some of his murals such as the ‘Quest for Knowledge’ can bee seen on the ceiling of the Lahore Museum. The artist also has several works on display at the State Bank Money Museum which can be viewed here.

He passed away in Karachi on February 10, 1987.
