KAMRA: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said on Thursday that a strong air force and aerospace platform is imperative for a strong nation.

Iqbal was speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony of Aviation City at Aeronautical Complex, Kamra.

Iqbal remarked that Pakistan Air Force has played a critical role in the war against terrorism and without its contributions the nation would have not registered the immense successes it has against the menace.

Air force is an important element of any nation's power which has assumed new importance for national security, he said.

Speaking about the aviation city, Iqbal remarked that the establishment of aviation city has come at a very appropriate time and fulfils the very need where knowledge and industry can work together to create new opportunities for Pakistan in the field of aerospace.

On the other hand, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman said that the aviation city will prove to be an important step towards achieving self-reliance in defence production. He said it is also an important lead towards production of fifth generation fighter jets in the country.

He said the aviation city will help support economic activities.

He further remarked that Pakistan is aiming towards self-reliance adding, “we are pledged to follow it.”

The Aviation City will also help nurture modern technology and research issues in aviation. Students will be offered higher education and provided with opportunity to conduct research and develop the field.
