KARACHI: Two members of a banned terror outfit were killed early Tuesday in an encounter with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Karachi’s Mangophir vicinity.

The deceased terrorists of Mufti Shakir faction of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan — identified as Jabbar and Daniyal — were involved in attacks on police personnel in Korangi and Abul Hassan Isphani road, according to CTD SSP Omar Shahid.

The terrorists planned to attack places of worship and police personnel, SSP Shahid added.

"As per the forensic report of two pistols recovered from the dead terrorists, one of the weapons was used in the assassination of a sub inspector two years ago," SSP Shahid said. "No prior record for the other pistol was found."

CTD Additional IG Dr Sanaullah Abbasi added that the CTD raided and sealed a seminary operated by terrorist mastermind Mufti Shakir on Saturday but the deceased terrorists managed to evade authorities after the raid.

In a separate incident in Orangi Town, a dacoit opened fire and injured a citizen who resisted a robbery attempt. The 19-year-old injured man, identified as Salman, was shifted to a hospital, rescue sources told Geo News.

A suspect, Salam, who belongs to notorious criminal Baba Ladla’s gang war group was arrested in a police operation in Lyari’s Baghdadi area, SSP Adeel Chandio said.

Weapons and contraband were recovered from the arrested suspect, the police said.

A stolen bike, weapons, and contraband were seized from a street criminal – Fayyaz – who was arrested by the police in a search operation in North Nazimabad.
