Mashal Khan case suspects to be indicted on Sept 19

ABBOTTABAD: Arrested suspects in the Mashal Khan case will be indicted on September 19, Geo News reported on Thursday.

According to investigation authorities, the 57 suspects, of whom four are absconding, will be indicted and daily hearings of the case will start from September 20. 

The daily hearings will be held at Haripur prison.

The anti-terrorism court in Abbottabad will hear the bail application filed by one of the suspects and pass a verdict on September 18.

Mashal Khan, who was a student of journalism at Abdul Wali Khan University, was lynched by an enraged mob on the university premises on April 13. The mob killed the student over allegations of blasphemy.

The university personnel and students were also arrested for their involvement in Mashal’s murder.

Prime suspect confesses to his crime

On April 29, the prime suspect of Mashal Khan murder case, Imran, confessed to his crime before a city magistrate.

In his confessional statement, Imran said that he opened fire at Mashal because the deceased was guilty of blasphemy and he does not regret killing him.

Imran, a fellow student of Mashal, had fired three shots at Mashal Khan, of which two hit the deceased. The pistol used in the murder was also seized.

The same day, the shooter was presented in an anti-terrorism court and remanded in police custody for four days along with other five other suspects.
