KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan chief Farooq Sattar said on Sunday that the authority to maintain law and order should be given to Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar, claiming that then the infamous knife attacker would not stand a chance.

The MQM-P leader was addressing a gathering in Mahmoodabad area of the city.

During his address, Sattar demanded that the control of the community police should be given to the mayor.

“If the system of eliminating crime is under the mayor then within 24 hours we will catch every knife attacker,” said Sattar.

The MQM-P chief said that the conspiracy against his party is a conspiracy against Pakistan.

Sattar said that if weapons can be recovered from water tanks then the ‘knives shouldn’t be out of grasp as well’.

Farooq Sattar addressed a press conference later in the day, where he said that his party presented all the bills in the assemblies which benefited the public.

“Everyone thinks that there is space for reformation in MQM,” said Sattar, adding that people from every walks of life are joining the party.

Since September 25, at least 16 attacks by a knife attacker, riding a motorcycle, have occurred in the city's eastern district.

The suspect, who has posed quite a challenge to the authorities, remains at large, evading arrest and baffling authorities after a fresh spate of knife attacks on women, concentrated mainly in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal areas.
