ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while referring to late leadership of his party, said on Thursday that "we kissed the noose but did not take a U-turn", in the face of hardships.

Addressing a ceremony here, the PPP chairman said culture holds enormous importance in any society. "Sindh is a historic part of Pakistan. Mohenjo-Daro tells us that this region was home to one of the oldest civilisations."

He said they were equally proud to be Pakistanis as they were proud of their rich culture and history.

"We do not take U-turns, rather we chant 'Marsoon Marsoon Sindh na Desoon (We will die but won't give Sindh away)'," Bilawal said, taking a jibe at Prime Minister Imran Khan without naming him.

"We faced dictatorships; we didn't bow before dictators," he said. "We kissed the noose, but did not take a U-turn."

He said they stared the terrorists in their eyes, embraced martyrdom but did not take a U-turn.

The PPP chairman further described democracy as the only way for the country to progress.

"We can move forward walking on the path of democracy," he maintained.
