Ahsan Ali aims to catch selectors eye in PSL

 

SHARJAH: The Pakistan Super League has fast-tracked career of several Pakistan Cricketers in last three years and have given many a hope that they can also wear the green shirt for Pakistan.

Most of the talent coming out from PSL, though, are bowlers or bowling all rounders. Hassan Ali, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz are few to name.

This year, it seems that the league is set to produce batsmen for Pakistan Cricket as well. Islamabad United’s Rizwan Hussain and Quetta Gladiators’ Ahsan Ali are among batsmen who are knocking selectors door thru PSL.

On Saturday, Ahsan Ali - a former Pakistan U19 player - said that PSL is a lifetime opportunity for him and he will not let this chance go in vain.

“This is best chance for me to achieve my dreams of playing for Pakistan and I will not waste this opportunity to prove myself,” Ahsan told Geo after his 29 ball 40 against Lahore Qalandars that laid the foundation of his team’s success.

“The league as produced bowlers, i am aiming to make my name as a batsman through this league and I have worked really hard. I’m confident that I will manage to catch selectors’ eye by giving my best in this tournament,” said 25 year old Ahsan Ali.

Ahsan said that PSL is a great learning opportunity for him and many youngsters like him as they don’t get to learn much at domestic tournaments in home.

According to him, sharing dressing room with top players is the key.

“Thankful to Allah that I have got the opportunity to play at this level. Pakistan Super League is an important platform for me,” he said.

“You don’t get to learn much about big match pressure in local domestic tournaments as you get to share dressing room with top players from around the world through this league,” Ahsan said.

The hard hitting batsman said that he is enjoying the environment of Quetta Gladiators and team management has given him much confidence which motivated him to perform.

“Initially I was nervous but then skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed gave me confidence that I can do well in this tournament.

Seniors told me to consider his as just another club match and don’t take any pressure,” Ahsan said adding that he would have been more happy if he had finished it as well after flamboyant start.

“I’m honoured that I have also got a chance to learn from Sir Viv Richards. He’s so humble and always available to teach youngsters, he helped me a lot after I couldn’t do much in my first game,” he said.
