KARACHI: A 12-year-old was shot dead and two policemen injured late Friday night in firing at a residence in Karachi's Quaidabad.

A suspect opened fire during a gathering at a police officer's residence in Muslimabad Colony of Quaidabad. Two children and two police officers were injured in the firing and taken to Jinnah Hospital where Sajjad, 12, succumbed to his wounds.

Jinnah Hospital medico-legal officer Dr Aijaz said, "Sajjad received two bullets — one in his head and the other in his left arm."

"Sajjad appears to have been shot from a close distance and from a small weapon," the MLO said.

Police said the suspect hid in a near-by house which officials surrounded resulting in a cross-fire between the two sides. The suspect identified as Sher Zaman was arrested, police said.
