KHAIPUR: A Hindu student of the Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur who was allegedly missing has reportedly converted to Islam and married a Muslim class fellow, Geo News reported.

Now known as Aliza Fatima, the girl is expected to record her statement in the court later today. She reportedly underwent conversion at the Al-Jamia Islamia Madrassas Khairpur.

The girl's family, including uncle Santosh Kumar, had expressed concern to the authorities that they believed that Aarti Kumari was kidnapped and submitted a request to file a first information report (FIR). Kumar named Hasnain Pathan as the suspect.

At that time, however, assistant sub-inspector of police (ASP) Dr Imran Khan said he thought the girl — a student of BSc Chemistry — had likely gone with her class fellow by choice. Regardless, an investigation was initiated upon the submission of Kumar's request and attempts were being made to track down the two through mobile phone records.

Police said they had also conducted a raid at the residence of Hasnain Pathan, the boy who was named as the suspect by the Hindu girl's uncle, Kumar.
