Lahore: Police arrest two suspects for killing newlywed man

A man was shot dead on the third day after his wedding over a rivalry in Lahore's Mustafabad area on Sunday.

Police sprung into action and arrested two men over suspicion of committing the murder within two hours after the incident. They recovered weapons and a motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.

The deceased, identified as Saqlain, was a resident of Dharampura, Mustafabad and had gotten married on August 5 in the city's Ghaziabad area.

On the third day of the wedding, Saqlain was bringing his wife back from her in-laws in a Qingqi rickshaw when the two suspects opened fire on them near Beijing Underpass. 

Saqlain succumbed to his wounds on the spot while his sister, Rameesha and brother Hasnain — who were also in the vehicle — were injured. The assailants fled after committing the crime.

According to the police, the suspects, Shahmir and Usman, confessed to the crime during the preliminary investigation. Shahmir allegedly confessed to committing the murder as he was interested in marrying Saqlain's wife.

Police registered a case against the suspects on a the victim's father's complaint.
