A meme shared on Twitter celebrating the announcement of extended Spring Break in areas where coronavirus prevalence continues to remain high.

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood on Wednesday announced that Pakistani schools in coronavirus hotspot areas will remain closed till April 11.

He made the announcement to the media after an important meeting of federal and provincial education and health ministers at the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) amid an alarming rise in coronavirus cases in the country.

Mehmood also said the government will meet with representatives of the Cambridge International Examinations board, which holds O and A Levels examinations, to see whether the exams can be postponed or not.

Meanwhile, exams held by local boards will go ahead as scheduled, he said.

Here's a look at some of the reactions:

Someone spoke about the minister's 'shafqat' that keeps on giving.

Another came up with a witty play on a political meme that's been circulating recently:

Students from Punjab seemed to be deliriously happy about the extension to their holidays:

However, students from Sindh and Balochistan — where coronavirus spread is thankfully still low — seemed to be dejected at being left out of the Spring Break celebrations.

The heart break was very real:
