  • ECP states that the hearings for this case have been due for seven years now.
  • Details about party's funding will not be disclosed to anyone by the commissioner.
  • Hearing for the case will be held on March 17.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected PTI's request to adjourn the foreign funding case and stated that the hearings for this case have been due for seven years now.

The statement was issued by the chief election commissioner today in response to the plea of adjournment presented by PTI's lawyer. Upon PTI's request, the chief election commissioner also agreed to not disclose details about the party's funding to anyone.

Farrukh Habib, a member of the National Assembly, replied on behalf of PTI and said he wants the hearings of PML-N and PPP's prohibited funding cases to be heard by the court as well.

The chief election commissioner pointed out that since the session is not in order today, he will not accept requests like this. He further announced that the hearing will be held on March 17.

Earlier, a report of an ECP scrutiny committee probing the PTI's funds revealed that the party provided "false information" regarding its funding.

It said that SBP's bank statement revealed that the party had received Rs1.64 billion in funding.

According to the report, the party did not disclose funding worth more than Rs310 million to the ECP.

Opposition urges ECP to decide PTI's foreign funding case

A day ago, Pakistan Democratic Movement chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, on behalf of the joint Opposition urged, had the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to decide the PTI's foreign funding case and alleged that the party was "guilty".

Akin to that, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on March 13 had said that "everything will be clear" once the ECP announces a decision regarding PTI’s foreign funding case.
