Neve Campbell reveals pay disparity woes with 'Scream'

Neve Campbell shared how the Scream franchise got her on board for the seventh part of the film.

The 50-year-old actress’ statement comes after she shared good news for her fans in March. Sharing a picture of a script, Neve penned, “I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!!"

She first played the titular character of Sidney in the first installment of Scream in 1996, and later returned for each of the sequels except for the sixth part, released in 2023 due to a “contractual disagreement.”

As she will once again reprise her role, Neve told PEOPLE that she had a falling out with Spyglass Media Group over her salary.

“I just really felt the need to stand up and say that I don’t believe I would’ve been treated that way had I been a man carrying a franchise for 25 years,” she said.

Expressing her fury with the pay disparity, Neve continued, “I honestly don’t believe that if I were a man and had done five installments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man.”

Neve added that the production came to her with a “strong” offer this time which is why she agreed to come back to the franchise.

“I’m really grateful that the studio heard me when I talked about pay discrepancy and when I talked about [Scream VI negotiations] not feeling respectful,” she shared.
