LAHORE: Former Pakistan cricket captain, Rashid Latif has
suggested that former skipper Younis Khan who was dropped from Pakistan's initial squad of 30 players for Champions Trophy, to quit one day cricket and to take up coaching of the national side.

"I feel that it is high time for Younis to call it a day as far as one
day international cricket is concerned as his careers seems to be over in ODI after being dropped from the squad ",he said on Thursday .

The former wicket-keeper batsman was of the view that such a juncture comes in every player's career when he passes his prime in a particular format of the game and Younis should retire from ODI and to serve the game in a different role by taking up coaching of the national side.

He acknowledged Younis contributions as an ODI player and termed him a wonderful player who inspired the national team to success on many occasions.

"I see an ideal coach in Younis and there is no harm in appointing him
as Pakistan's assistant coach, who can take over when foreign coach Dave Whatmore leaves", said Rashid Latif.

He said Younis Khan is a certified level-two coach as he attended the
course few years ago under the supervision of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) at the National Cricket Academy .

He said PCB is looking for a full time batting coach for the national
side before it takes part in the Champions trophy this summer in England . "I think Younis is an ideal choice as assistant coach because of his experience in the game and he has the potential to add to the confidence and technique of our national team's batsmen ",he said.

He said it is best way to groom Younis as a coach and with the passage of time he will polish his coaching skills to become a full time coach.(APP)
