Dan Erickson, the creator of Severance, has revealed how Keanu Reeves ended up lending his voice for a cameo.

For the unversed, the 60-year-old John Wick actor’s voice is in the season 2 premiere called “Hello, Ms. Cobel.”

Reeves voices the Lumon building in the “Lumon is Listening” orientation video, which is shown to workers in the Macrodata Refinement division.

Speaking to Collider, the 40-year-old producer shared, “All I can say is that we talked about a couple of different people for that role.”

He went on to add, “We always wanted it to be somebody that people have certain associations with, but also, it had to be a very warm presence. The Lumon building is very friendly in the context of this video, and there’s a friendliness to that particular voice and a heart to that particular voice.”

Notably, Severance, which is directed by Ben Stiller, takes place in a world where technology allows workers to separate their work and personal memories.

In the 10-episode second season, Mark (Adam Scott) and his friends discover the serious problems that come from messing with the memory barrier, taking them deeper into trouble.

Along with Reeve, the show also stars Britt Lower, Adam Scott, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Christopher Walken, Michael Chernus, Patricia Arquette, Jen Tullock, Dichen Lachman, John Turturro, and new regular Sarah Bock.

It is pertinent to mention that Severance season 2 was released on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT on Apple TV+.
