CARDIFF: South Africa, after losing the toss, made 230 for six against the West Indies in their winner-takes-all Champions Trophy Group B match at Cardiff on Friday.
Opener Colin Ingram top-scored with 73 and useful late runs came during a fifth-wicket stand of 68 in 48 balls between Faf du Plessis (35) and David Miller (38) in a match reduced by rain to 31 overs per side.
Whichever team wins this match will join already-qualified India as one of the two Group B teams going into the semi-finals.
A minimum of 20 overs per side is needed to declare a result. If more bad weather means that mark cannot be reached, South Africa will go through to the last four because of their superior net run-rate.
