Cynthia Erivo recently talked about her top 7 vocal performances.
In her latest chat with Entertainment Weekly, the Wicked: For Good star talked about her top seven vocal performances of all time
During this conversation, she named Sisqó’s 2000 hit Thong Song as one of them.
She began, "Why do you need to sing like this when singing about a thong?"
"The whole end section of this song is so unnecessary. You have a key change. There’s a praise break at some point. It’s ridiculous,” she added.
She applauded the singer by saying, “You don’t need to sing like that and he does."
For those unversed, Sisqó is an American R&B singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor.
His music career spans over three decades as he made a debut as a member of the R&B group Dru Hill in 1992.
As a solo musician, he released his debut album "Unleash the Dragon" in 1999, which became a huge success
She went on to praise the depth of precision and the amount of effort put in by the singer in that song.
"You’re singing about a thong," she noted and declared, "You can't tell me that it’s not a good vocal because it is a good vocal.”
Cynthia maintained the singer’s work is “a brilliant vocal for a song about a thong. [The song] didn’t need him to do that and he did."
Besides the Thong Song, Cynthia named a Porgy and Bess medley from Whitney Houston, And I'm Telling You... from Dreamgirls, Luther Vandross' cover of A House Is Not a Home, and Jazmine Sullivan’s Home in a school production of The Wiz as her other six top vocal performances.
