In imminent changes set shape the country's quick-commerce services, the Indian government has urged e-commerce platforms to drop the "10-minute delivery" promise.
Citing sources with knowledge of the matter, BBC reported that the Indian government has urged e-commerce platforms to remove '10-minute delivery' due to worker safety concerns.
The move to stop e-commerce platforms' 10-minute delivery claim comes on the heels of discussions between the federal labour ministry and company representatives, which followed delivery riders' nationwide strike pinpointing dangerous working conditions.
The discourse revolves around major brands such as Zomato, Blinkit, and Zepto, which allow urban customers to order groceries and various items, including electronics and household supplies, within minutes.
While this buying model is massively popular among consumers, it has come under hot water for pressurising gig workers and exposing them to severe safety risks.
Last month, thousands of delivery workers in India carried out a strike, demanding fair wages, dignity, and safer working conditions.
