Zoe Saldaña officially dethroned the highest-earning actor of all time after the 2025 film Avatar: Fire and Ash was dropped in December last year.
The new queen of the box office, Saldaña has also collaborated with Marvel over the years, starring as Gamora in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and 2019's Avengers: Endgame.
The third Avatar movie grossed $1.23 billion at the global box office, as reported by Box Office Mojo, which helped the actress to dethrone Scarlett Johansson.
Zoe Saldaña is emerging as the new ruler of the box office, with an eye-popping sum of $15,468,366,118 in ticket sales, based on 33 movies, with her movies averaging $468.7 million at the box office.
While it’s a close race between the two talented women, what ultimately becomes the final push that secured Saldaña’s top spot is her involvement with James Cameron’s Avatar series.
Saldaña, 47, starred as Neytiri opposite Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully in the first two James Cameron directorials, including 2009’s Avatar and the 2022 sequel, The Way of Water.
She also featured in 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which brought in $654 million globally.
Johansson, 41, made box office history credited to Marvel hits such as Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2025).
Saldaña is set to return as Neytiri in two more Avatar sequels, continuing the story of Pandora and the Na’vi’s struggles.
Saldaña’s latest milestone comes on the heels of her 2025 Oscar triumph for Best Supporting Actress in Emilia Perez.
