Dan Levy spoke about Catherine O’Hara’s passing in his recent interview, sharing how his on-screen mom left everyone in mourning.
The 42-year-old actor said it was a “collective lost” and knowing how greatly she was loved has proven to be a great comfort to him.
The Schitt’s Creek star who played O’Hara’s son in their famous sitcom told Jimmy Fallon on his Tuesday, March 31 show, “She was the greatest. She’s irreplaceable. I think the great comfort for me has just been to see how loved she was. The outpouring … everyone felt like they kind of knew her.”
The Tonight Show host added that the Beetlejuice star was one “of the funniest comedians I’ve ever seen,” to which Levy agreed, saying “unbelievably talented at improvising,” calling her “One of the great, great, great queens.”
The Studio actress passed away on January 30 after a “brief illness” at the age of 71.
At the time, Levy took to Instagram, writing, “What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years. Having spent over fifty years collaborating with my Dad, Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family. It’s hard to imagine a world without her in it. I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her.”
Levy’s dad Eugene Levy who co-created the show with him, and collaborated with O’Hara on multiple projects for more than fifty years told Us Weekly, “Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today,” after the news became public.
