The two daughters of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson have a big challenge ahead of them even though King Charles has publicly shown that both his nieces are under his protection.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have had distressing past few months since the Epstein files exposed their parents, and the close ties they held with paedophile Jeffery Epstein.
Experts believe this a burden on the two sisters and it would be a testament to their standing in the monarchy.
“It’s a terrible burden to have the cloud of this allegation over your father… and then the Epstein files have revealed some very unpalatable things about their mother’s behaviour,” Sam McAlister, journalist behind the disgraced Andrew’s now notorious 2019 Newsnight interview.
She had published a memoir on the behind the scenes which inspired the 2024 Netflix drama Scoop.
The ex-BBC booker expressed that there is a “place for empathy” for Beatrice and Eugenie, who were taken to meet Epstein by their mother.
She admitted that the royal siblings would be seen as “immensely privileged young women moving in circles of money and power that most people can only dream of” but they are in a “difficult” position.
“Every day there is a new revelation, and you can only imagine the burden that places on them,” she told The Mirror.
It would also be a test of their loyalty towards the royal family, even though it is evident that they are under the protection of monarch. It was not long ago when they had been uninvited from the Royal Ascot and had to make other plans for Easter.
The Palace cleared weeks later that they have invites to the annual horse-racing event and that they would appear at more royal events.
However, the circumstances would have been very different if Beatrice and Eugenie also had anything incriminating against them in the Epstein files.
