Record heat forces Disneyland Paris to close attractions amid red alert warnings

Disneyland Paris has suspended all outdoor operations as a record-shattering heatwave pushed temperatures to a staggering 124 degrees Fahrenheit.

The severe heatwave forced the resort into crisis mode and upended thousands of vacation plans.

With ground-level temperatures exceeding 120 degrees at the park’s iconic centrepiece, the operational staff documented the extreme conditions.

Following the heatwave, French authorities have issued maximum “red alert” weather warnings across more than half the country, with officials comparing the current conditions to the catastrophic 2003 heatwave that took the lives of around 15,000 French people.

Besides Disneyland, popular attractions, including Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril, Big Thunder Mountain, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop, Autopia, and the Disneyland Railroad, are all closed.

Although 80% of the resort’s attractions feature indoor or covered queues, fully exterior tracks, and open-air experiences remain closed during peak afternoon temperatures.

Additionally, the fireworks from Disney Adventure World’s new Cascade of Lights show are also cancelled due to regional wildfire risks.

Major Parisian landmarks such as the Louvre Museum, Eiffel Tower, etc., have also shortened their operating hours while more than 1,350 schools remain closed across the region. The heatwave is expected to persist through the weekend, with a possible cooling trend forecast for next week.
