As Meghan Markle opted for a life on her own terms, she lost a significant royal role, which could have given Princess Kate, the future Queen, a tough time.
The former Suits actress entered the royal family in 2018 as the world witnessed a grand wedding with Prince Harry.
Initially, the couple received all the love and praise during their royal engagements. But their life-changing decision came in between their royal perks.
In 2020, Harry and Meghan stepped down from their senior royal roles in order to pursue a life where they make decisions of their own.
The late Queen rejected the idea of a half-in, half-out approach, taking away the Sussexes' access from the royal fold.
Meghan was a breath of fresh air for Britons, but that did not last long.
Simon Vigar believes that if their departure did not take place, the Duchess could be the "master player" of the monarchy.
In conversation with People, he said, "She was obviously a massive asset.
"She was brilliant with the crowd, with the people. She would have been a major player in the royal family, and it is a crying shame that she’s not."
Mr Vigar believes that the egos from both sides won and a potentially significant member was lost to that.
"You could see what a doer she is, and to me it is such a shame that it’s gone to waste. She should have been, could have been, fantastic for the royal family, but egos on both sides got in the way," he stated.
