Duchess Sophie's royal gift for Zambia's First Lady comes from Buckingham Palace

The Duchess of Edinburgh has added a personal British touch to her official visit to Zambia.

She presented President Hakainde Hichilema and his wife, First Lady Mutinta Hichilema, with a selection of thoughtful gifts connected to the Royal Family.

Sophie met the Zambian President and First Lady at Community House in Lusaka during the second day of her six-day tour, which is focused on strengthening UK-Zambia ties while also bring attention to women's empowerment, education, and eye health.

Among the gifts she brought from Britain was honey produced by beehives at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Bagshot Park, the Surrey home of Sophie and her husband, Prince Edward.

Sophie presented the jars to the President and First Lady during their meeting in Lusaka.

She also had a special gift for Mutinta, presenting Zambia's First Lady with a scarf combining two distinct traditions. 

One side features colourful Zambian chitenge fabric, while the other is made from Scottish cashmere.

The scarf was created by textile students supported by The King's Foundation.

Meanwhile, the Duke of Edinburgh visited Blackpool’s award-winning Stanley Park, which is celebrating its centenary year.
