Selena Gomez reveals what it's really like making music with Benny Blanco

Music has played a huge role in Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s friends-to-married arc.

In People magazine’s latest cover story, the pop icon revealed Blanco’s experience as a music producer has been valuable, but he has always made sure her creative choices stay hers.

“He happens to be extremely more advanced in that world than I am, and I really appreciate his advice and his guidance, but he never took control of anything,” Gomez, 34, said. “If anything, I wanted him to and he just said, ‘No, I want your decisions to be your decisions,’ and it was very easy.”

The couple — who tied the knot in September 2025 after two years of dating — put that dynamic to work on their 2025 album I Said I Love You First, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and earned a Best Dance Pop Recording Grammy nomination.

Gomez admitted the experience was special, even if she does not plan to make every album alongside Blanco.

“I don’t think I would make every album with him, but I loved it, and we have a memory now. We’ve done something together,” she added.

Gomez, 34, and Blanco, 38, first met years ago through the industry, and even worked together on the 2019 song, I Can’t Get Enough. Their musical collaborations haven’t stopped, with the couple releasing another song, Te Olvido (La La) with Becky G last month.
