Joe Alwyn has always been an advocate of keeping your personal life private, even, and especially as a public figure and this value came to the fore several times during his high profile relationship with Taylor Swift, and became one of the causes the relationship could not work out.
The 35-year-old actor has openly criticised the morbid curiosity among fans for their favourite celebrities, and recently silently commented on the practice through his social media.
The Conversations With Friends star just changed his profile picture ten years later, and replaced it with a still form the film, The Truman Show.
A fan took to X and noted, "The meaning of the film is a deep criticism of the loss of privacy, control of the media and the struggle for individual freedom in the face of an artificial society."
Another chimed in, "Also that part of the movie and THAT image means FREEDOM, the door is the exit to reality, the open arms is the acceptance of the unknown and not being afraid and the clouds all the false that surrounds it."
While one alarmed fan wrote, "Historic moment, Joe Alwyn changed his profile picture on Instagram, now is a Truman Show movie still."
Previously speaking about his breakup which was dissected and picked apart publicly, Alwyn told Elle, "We live in a culture that is so increasingly intrusive. The more you give—and frankly, even if you don't give it—something will be taken."
