Jalen Hurts fires back at Jeffery Simmons after Eagles beat Titans: 'I had to finish it'

The win provided an opportunity to Hurts to settle the score.

“You started that s***. I had to finish it,” Hurts said with a smile, taking a jab at Simmons while briefly pausing his postgame on-field interview.

For context, moving into week 2 of the NFL regular season clash against the Phillies, Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons said Tennessee needed to make Jalen Hurts “play quarterback.”

The two have traded barbs after that, but Hurts made it clear that he had heard Simmons’ comments to reporters in the week, when Simmons told reporters: “We just need to make Jalen Hurts a QB. Stop his runs, make sure Hurts doesn’t get out of the pocket and make plays.”

Hurts recorded 26 of his 37 passes for 264 yards, along with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

The two interceptions proved costly and led to Tennessee points, but Hurts and the Eagles stormed back to open the 2026 season with a 2-0.

However, Simmons clarified that his comments before Week 2 weren’t aimed at Hurts and he meant the Titans wanted to keep Hurts contained and restrict him from making big plays with his legs.

“It wasn’t, ‘Oh, he can’t be a quarterback in the pocket.” Simmons told reporters. ‘When it really mattered, we weren’t at our best today.”

The Philadelphia Eagles, 2-0 this regular season, move into Week 3, where they face the Chicago Bears.
