Jennifer Lawrence, Zach Cregger team up for new sci-fi thriller

Jennifer Lawrence has found her next big-screen project — and it’s taking her into sci-fi territory.

The Oscar-winning actress is set to star in Zach Cregger’s upcoming thriller The Flood, which is being developed by Warner Bros.’ 

New Line division for a theatrical release on August 11, 2028.

The movie has already had quite the journey. New Line picked up The Flood from Netflix earlier this year, bringing the project to the same studio behind Cregger’s breakout Oscar-winning horror hit Weapons.

Cregger is pulling double duty as writer and director, with the story based on his own original idea. 

He’ll also produce the film alongside Amblin Entertainment and his longtime collaborators Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment.

Production is expected to get underway in Europe during the first few months of 2027.

For Lawrence, the role is another intriguing addition to a carefully chosen lineup. The actress has developed a reputation for being selective about what she takes on, making her casting in The Flood a major get for New Line.

She most recently earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the postpartum drama Die My Love. 

Next up, she’ll share the screen with Leonardo DiCaprio in What Happens at Night, directed by Martin Scorsese.

With Cregger’s Resident Evil now out and making waves, The Flood looks like the filmmaker is wasting absolutely no time choosing his next nightmare.
