New report shows welfare check at Hayden Panettiere's apartment before death

New details are emerging about the final days before Hayden Panettiere's death. 

The Us Weekly obtained a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department call report revealing that deputies conducted a welfare check at her West Hollywood apartment on August 9, exactly one week before she was found unresponsive at a South Carolina Airbnb on August 16. 

According to the report, a caller requested the check because an unidentified woman at the residence had stopped answering phone calls and had become "unresponsive to many people in her circle."

The heavily redacted report did not name Panettiere directly, but a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to Us Weekly that the woman in question was the actress. 

According to that source, Panettiere's on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, answered the door when deputies arrived around 10 p.m.

Officers reportedly spoke with the person inside, who told them she was okay but had been sick and not feeling well that day; no formal report was filed, with the visit instead logged as a "clearance" since no crime was suspected. 

The same source alleged that after Panettiere was later hospitalised in the days before her death, she told a visiting friend that Hickerson had taken her phone.

The August 9 call was reportedly not the only time law enforcement had been dispatched to Panettiere's apartment in 2025, according to additional 911 service records cited by Us Weekly, though the specifics of the other calls weren't detailed in available reporting. 

Separately, Panettiere's father, Skip Panettiere, told investigators with the Greenville County Coroner's Office that his daughter had recently completed a two-to-three-week stay at a treatment facility in Malibu in the weeks leading up to her death. 

The coroner's office has attributed her death to the toxic effects of multiple drugs, including fentanyl.
