KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has rejected a petition challenging the appointment of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as Deputy Prime Minister on Tuesday, Geo News reported.
The court observed that according to the notification ,Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was appointed as a federal minister and deputy prime minister that did not allow him to exercise the power of a prime minister.
Justice Munib Akhtar remarked that Pervaiz Elahi is part of the Cabinet as a federal minister while the government is run by Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
Justice Munib further said that the Constitution does not prohibit the appointment of deputy prime minister, hence such appointment is not against the law.
The petitioner, Moulvi Iqbal Haider, had maintained that the Constitution of Pakistan does not have any provision for the post of deputy prime minister and such an appointment is illegal.
He had requested the court to declare the notification of Pervaiz Elahi’s appointment as deputy PM unconstitutional and illegal.
