NEW YORK: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan Friday said that Nawaz Sharif’s claim of paying Rs920 million as taxes in 1992 was wrong, Geo News reported.
Speaking to Shafqat Mehmood, PTI’s Information Secretary, from New York, Khan said that Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif had paid Rs51318 and Rs53482 as taxes in 1990-1991 respectively.
He said that according to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) statistics Nawaz and Shahbaz showed their income to be only Rs2,49,537 and Rs2,71,638 respectively in 1990-1991.
The PTI chief further claimed that Sharif brothers paid Rs1,40008 as tax in the same year during which they received money from Younis Habib, former head of Mehran Bank.
Imran Khan, while referring to Nawaz Sharif’s talk with Geo News anchor Hamid Mir, said the former prime minister’s statement was vague as he mixed up Sales Tax, Central Excise Duty, and other taxes.
“If we assume Sharifs’ companies paid Rs920 million as taxes then why did they show less income,” he added.
